With the recent accumulation of snow, it's officially time to embrace old man winter and take advantage of the many trail systems surrounding Charlevoix proper. Whether you choose to try cross country skis or a pair of snowshoes, Charlevoix offers a variety of adventures to pass the time in this winter wonderland.
Need winter equipment? Head over to Mt. McSauba Recreation Area. You'll find snowshoe and cross country ski rentals with groomed trails for the beginner and ungroomed trails for the novice skier. Mt. McSauba offers a lighted 2-kilometer trail to enjoy a night ski, too.
Feeling confident in your winter abilities? Take an adventure to one of the many nature preserves nestled in beautiful Charlevoix County.
With 80 acres of open fields and northern Michigan hardwoods, Charles A. Ransom Nature Preserve has a 1.5-mile trail system with views of Lake Michigan, Leelanau Peninsula, Fox Island and Beaver Island.
Fisherman's Island State Park, a 2,678-acre state park, along the shores of Lake Michigan. Enjoy beautiful views and miles of trails.
Little Traverse Wheelway, a 26-mile trail from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs, runs along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
Next up, visit North Point Nature Preserve, composed of 27 acres with 2,800 feet on Lake Michigan. This trail system, with beach access and wooded back dunes, merges with Mt. McSauba', which is adjacent to the preserve.
What are you waiting for? Grab your equipment and get exploring the great views Charlevoix has to offer this winter season. Tired after enjoying all that fresh air? Find a cozy getaway and great deal here.
