Day Tripping in Charlevoix, Michigan

One of the most common questions visitors ask, is which activities and places they should not miss. With summer in full swing, here’s a list of fun activities you can add to your summer bucket list – see how many you can complete before summer vacation comes to an end!

  1. Take a Mushroom House Tour
Earl Young, master architect and builder, created houses that defy traditional design standards. Each house has a unique design and personality that leaves you wondering how he accomplished each whimsical design. Take a historic tour to learn more about Charlevoix’s unique mushroom houses. *Please be aware that these houses are privately owned and are not open for inside tours. Please be respectful of private property.*
  2. Paddle down the Jordan River
For the adventurer, set course for the Jordan River. The Jordan River is both a relaxing ride and a thrilling adventure. Whether you bring your own equipment (kayak, canoe, SUP or other) or need a rental, your time on the Jordan River will leave you with a big smile on your face.
  3. Frolic through fields of Lavender
Tucked away in the scenic countryside, Lavender Hill Farm invites you to walk through fields of lavender. Sign up for a special lunch and experience delicious foods infused with lavender. Take a moment to explore the lavender labyrinth, catch a movie in the historic barn, or take a guided lavender tour to learn more about Michigan’s largest operating lavender farm.
  4. Trails, Trails, and more Trails
Charlevoix has some of the best trail systems in the state. Try the Little Traverse Wheelway. This bike path will take you all the way to Harbor Springs and let’s not forget to mention the amazing views of Lake Michigan. Looking for a beautiful hiking trail? Visit the Mt. McSauba Recreation Area to enjoy uncrowded trails, amazing beach access, catch a round disc golf and more. View more trail systems here.
  5. Visit Beaver Island
Whether you fly or take the ferry, Beaver Island is a treasure trove of trails, history, fishing, paddling, boating, and biking. As a recreational paradise, the island offers you the chance to get outside and explore nature’s unspoiled beauty. Stop by the Children’s Museum to find all sorts of non-motorized toys, or climb to the top of the lighthouse for amazing views of Lake Michigan, or sit back and enjoy a cold beer at the Shamrock.
  6. Look for a Petoskey and Charlevoix Stones

We love a good fairy tale and Charlevoix is home to the historically breathtaking Castle Farms.
