It’s no secret that Michigan has some of the best craft breweries in the country. Nestled in the historic Inwood area, 6 miles south of Charlevoix, you’ve most likely heard about Bier Art Gallery because they are known for their beautiful pottery, paintings, glasswork, jewelry and so much more. You may not know that Tyler Bier, son of artists Ray and Tammy, was a homebrewer who recently turned his hobby into a brewery. With the last name Bier, you would be destined to become a brewer. Bier’s Inwood Brewery creates beer in the traditional way while incorporating new ingredients for innovative flavors. Their menu consists of 11 tap lines rotating between many styles of beer and hard cider brewed in small batches on-site. If beer isn’t your thing, they also have a nice selection of Michigan-made wine and fruit wine.
One of the first things we noticed about Bier’s Inwood Brewery was the building itself. The brewery is in a Victorian-style building that served as the personal home of the Biers for many years. The brewery sits atop a hill with scenic views of the Charlevoix countryside, Lake Michigan, Beaver Island, and the Leelanau Peninsula. The brewery is an awesome mixture of microbrewery and features handcrafted artwork. We loved the fact that the owners incorporate their personal artwork into the brewery’s design. Not only do you get to enjoy a flavorful beer, you are also surrounded by beautiful art.
Now, let’s talk about beer. Each of the beers and ciders is an artful blend of flavors (pun intended). The Lakeview Light is a Kolsch beer featuring sweet honey notes with dry German Hallertauer and Saaz Hops. Clocked Out is a juicy pale ale with tropical citrus and pine flavors for a semi-dry ale. The Raven is a porter beer brewed with chocolate malt, black patent malt, and Magnum and Willamette hops.
Bier’s Inwood Brewery also has fun events happening at the brewery this fall. You can enjoy live weekly live music. Be sure to check their website often because they are always adding new beers to their menu and events to their calendar. The brewery welcomes you to bring your own food in, but sometimes they have events with a food truck.
